Lavender
Every home should have a bottle of lavender, if no other oil, because it is so very effective in the treatment of burns and scalds. Lavender oil is a natural antibiotic, antiseptic, antidepressant, sedative, and detoxifier which promotes healing and prevents scarring, and also stimulates the immune system and contributes to the healing process by stimulating the cells of a wound to regenerate more quickly.
Tea Tree
The
Aborigines have been using this indigenous Australian tree in their
medications for centuries and today tea tree is the subject of great deal of
international research. Its impressive antiviral, antibacterial, and
anti-fungal properties make it useful in a wide range of conditions. It is
used in the treatment of candida and all sorts of infections, for ringworm,
sunburn, acne, athlete's foot, toothache, and pyorrhea, among other things.
Peppermint
Peppermint has been used by many ancient cultures, including the Egyptians,
Chinese, and American Indians, no doubt because of its extremely useful
health-promoting properties. It is an excellent digestive, it helps the
respiratory system and circulation, it is an anti-inflammatory, and an
antiseptic. These qualities make it a good oil in the treatment of
indigestion, flatulence, bad breath, flue, catarrh, varicose veins, headaches,
migraines, skin irritations, rheumatism, toothache, and fatigue. It even keeps
mice, fleas, and ants away!
Eucalyptus
It cools the body in summer and protects it in winter. It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibiotic, diuretic, analgesic, and deodorizing. Research has proved its antiviral properties as well. It is best known for its effectiveness against coughs and colds but is equally effective in the treatment of cystitis, candida, diabetes, and sunburn, while also being useful in veterinary care and as an insect repellent.
Geranium
The
essential oil of Geranium works profoundly on the emotions and is useful in
many medical conditions. It will make chilblains disappear overnight and
brings a radiant glow when used in skin care. More importantly, it is a vital
component in the treatment of endometriosis, is very effective for menopausal
problems, diabetes, blood disorders, throat infections, and as a nerve tonic,
and works well as a sedative.
Rosemary
Rosemary is both a physical and mental stimulant, which makes it a good oil to
have in the morning bath, while also being excellent in the treatment of all
muscular conditions,
making it the perfect oil for a bath after a long tiring day. This antiseptic
oil is used in the treatment of muscular sprains, arthritis, rheumatism,
depression, fatigue, memory loss, migraine, headaches, coughs, flu, and
diabetes, among other conditions. It is also very useful in beauty treatments,
being used in hair care and acne and cellulite remedies.
Lemon
This antiseptic and antibacterial oil will perform many tasks when used in blends, including treating insect bites and tension headaches. It has a tonic action on the lymphatic system and a stimulating action on the digestive system. It will assist you to slim, help disperse cellulite, and keep wrinkles at bay.
Patchouli
The essential oil of Patchouli is extracted by steam distillation from the dried leaves of the Indonesian Patchouli plant. A traditional aphrodisiac perfume, this intensely rich, earthy essence has been used in massage for centuries to encourage relaxation, romance and love. Patchouli’s reputation as a aphrodisiac can be credited to its exotic fragrance and relaxing effects. When used in a compress, the antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties help to treat cracked, dry skin, acne, minor burns and cuts.
Sandalwood
The essential oil
of sandalwood is steam distilled from the heartwood of mature Indian trees. It
has traditionally been used as an aromatic incense. Sandalwood has been used
for meditation in India because its calming and grounding effect quiets mental
chatter and helps one focus on the present. The use of Sandalwood as an
aphrodisiac, particularly for men, dates back thousands of years. A massage
with this oil greatly enhances feelings of physical pleasure. Sandalwood has
been in use in skin care for centuries because of its anti-inflammatory
properties and ability to soften dry, irritated skin. Its antiseptic
properties also help the body to clear toxins.

Ylang
The oil is steam distilled from the freshly picked Indonesian ylang ylang flowers. In Indonesia, the flowers are ceremoniously spread over the beds of newlyweds as a wish for good luck and fertility. Ylang Ylang soothes and calms the spirit and body and creates a sense of well-being. It is helpful in relieving the effects of tension, anxiety and stress. It is also effective as an aphrodisiac, relaxing the mind and body while heightening the senses. Ylang Ylang has a rich fragrance which makes an intriguing perfume. The scent lingers and can be used to provide fragrance to linens. It can be added to a facial massage to benefit from its moisturizing and balancing properties.
